As the number-one-rated membership benefit of APTA's Sports and Orthopaedic Sections, the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy enjoys a dedicated readership of clinicians, researchers, practitioners, and academicians in the fields of musculoskeletal and sports-related rehabilitation and health, which encompasses physical therapy, and a growing national and international subscriber base outside APTA. As of January 1, 2012, JOSPT is a recognized journal of 27 physiotherapy, manual therapy, sports, and related professional organizations. The members of these groups either have access to the Journal as a member benefit paid for by their professional associations or at a discount.

The print edition of JOSPT reaches 32,460 individual and institutional subscribers in the United States and 55 countries around the world.  The Journal's website, www.jospt.org, receives more than 47,000 unique visitors from 149 countries each month. With nearly 1,300 institutional subscribers, JOSPT's print pass-along readership is far greater. The Journal's e-Table of Contents is delivered monthly to more than 55,000 email addresses.

The Journal is 100% paid—readers either purchase a subscription as part of their membership in APTA's Orthopaedic or Sports Sections or are independent subscribers. Finally, JOSPT's renewal rate for subscribers outside of APTA is better than 80%.

JOSPT's Editorial Focus

Scholarly, peer reviewed, and increasingly international in scope and reach, JOSPT features the latest evidence-based research and clinical cases in musculoskeletal and sports-related rehabilitation and health, including physical therapy, orthopaedics, sports medicine, and biomechanics. Now in its 33rd year, the Journal strives to offer high-quality research, immediately applicable clinical material, and useful supplemental information in a variety of formats.

JOSPT is the official journal of its publishers, the Orthopaedic Section and the Sports Physical Therapy Section of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Through the print and online Journal, the publishers seek to advance musculoskeletal and sports-related rehabilitation and health research and practice and to educate and support the profession. To these ends, the Journal's website delivers searchable abstracts from its launch in 1979 to date, as well as full-text access to articles published in JOSPT from 1979 to the present.

JOSPT is currently indexed in the following services in print and/or electronic format:

  • Index Medicus (Medline)
  • ISI's Current Contents/Clinical Medicine, SciSearch, Science Citation Index, ISI Alerting Services, and Focus On: Sports Science & Medicine
  • Excerpta Medica (Embase)
