About JOSPT Express
JOSPT Express provides immediate electronic publication of manuscripts that have been accepted for publication in the print edition of the Journal. These peer-reviewed manuscripts are posted in PDF format as submitted by their authors. They have not been edited or formatted and thus do not reflect the editorial standards to which the JOSPT holds its published material. JOSPT Express was created to give authors the opportunity to present their evidence to the musculoskeletal rehabilitation community many weeks or even months before it appears in print, and to give readers immediate access to the results of evidence-based research that can affect clinical practice and new research designs.
JOSPT Express papers are considered published on the day they are posted and are citable from that date. The online publication date accompanies the final print version of the manuscript. In addition, papers published ahead of print are indexed on the JOSPT website, and this index is maintained and archived (see JOSPT Express Index). When the print version appears, the JOSPT Express version is replaced with an electronic file of the print version, and the paper is moved to the appropriate print issue on the JOSPT website.
Further, articles published in JOSPT Express are indexed in PubMed/Medline. Because these manuscripts are not yet in final form, their bibliographic records hold an "Epub ahead of print" status until updated data is sent to PubMed when the paper is published in the printed Journal. These manuscripts also have the same digital object identifier (DOI) that is assigned to the finished article in print and online.
Please cite manuscripts that have been published in JOSPT Express as follows:
- In citing a paper that has been published in JOSPT Express, but has not yet appeared in print, include the abbreviated name of the Journal, J Orthop Sports Phys Ther., Epub with the date published online, and the DOI in the citation - for example:
- Fritz JM, Cleland JA, Childs JD. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther., Epub 15 March 2007, doi:10.2519/jospt.2007.2498
- After print publication of a JOSPT Express paper, include the full print reference, the date, and the DOI of the electronic publication - for example:
- Fritz JM, Cleland JA, Childs JD. Sub-Grouping Patients With Low Back Pain: Evolution of a Classification Approach to Physical Therapy. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2007;37(6):290-302; published online 15 March 2007. doi:10.2519/jospt.2007.2498
Readers must be JOSPT subscribers or members of APTA's Orthopaedic or Sports Physical Therapy Sections to view full text articles published ahead of print as well as the finished products printed in the Journal. These articles may also be purchased by non-subscribers and non-members on a pay-per-view basis.
DISCLAMER: Manuscripts published in JOSPT Express have not yet been edited or proofread and so may contain errors for which the Journal is not responsible.
